  • description: AVIC II is a large state-enterprise cooperation, in which the main features of aviation production is a geographically distributed manufacturing by multiple enterprises. As the number of aircraft models to be developed and the design complexity increases, the sharing of information and resources across the company becomes a prominent issue. It impacts directly on the company's product development efficiency, quality and scalability. After full investigation and analysis it’s proved that constructing the Enterprise Grid using existing infrastructure foundation could integrate and optimize the computing resources, thereby enhance the rapid product development capacity and the core competitiveness of the company.
    The ultimate expectation of the System is to build the grid platform across the AVICII enterprises. The platform will integrate and facilitate sharing of both software and hardware resources, improve resource utilization, and provide the data sharing mechanism and collaborative work environment on the grid platform.
    Applications include:
    • Topology optimization of the aircraft structure
    • Structural digital preassembly of aircraft structures (DMU)
    • functionalities: Aviation grid system has the following features:
      • Cluster management: including Beijing local cluster management and Hafei, Hongdu, CHDI cluster management;
      • Job scheduling: response to the request of grid client, schedule system resources for users according to the priority, and achieve job tracking and processing;
      • License management: response to license requests of users, and dynamically manage licenses according to strategies;
      • Data acquisition: collect the resources allocation of the grid system, including CPU status on the server/client, memory occupation, and so on;
      • Statistical reporting and analysis: report the system resources utilization, job status etc. to administrators, facilitate them to review and print.
      • Accounting: calculate the fee for users according to statistics of resources usage and the charging strategy, submit the charge list.
    • middleware requirements:
      • Independent development of the aviation grid system Portal.
      • Integration of the grid system with the firewall to ensure security of cluster resources.
      • Resources analysis system accounting the resources usage of the grid system, thus allowing a measure of the ROI (Return on Investment) and provide the basis for planning a roadmap for the future.
      • Distributed license management system , enabling the sharing of software. Centralized scheduling based on distributed license servers, the remote using of CATIA, UG and other software. A Catia license management system has been developed and its system integration with the grid completed. Both UG and Catia License controlling mechanism can be integrated through grid technology, for semplifying the sharing and use of licenses.
      • Hardware sharing across grid system. Grid users can choose hardware resources for their jobs and the grid management system will automatically allocate available hardware resources for jobs.
      • Data collection of accounting system , to monitor the resource utilization of clients, and calculate fees according to the charge strategies.
    • resources requirements:
      • Hardware device:  the CNIC AVIC II node has 8 dual CPU servers, rack-mounted, with plans to increase mass storage devices to implement data sharing and centralized management for key models. Each of Hafei, Hongdu, and CHDI is equipped with 20 servers /clients.
      • Software: Windows2000 Server, Red hat Linux, PlatformLSF Multicluster for Cluster Management, PlatformJob Scheduler for job management, PlatformLSF AnalyticsServer for server analysis, PlatformLSF AnalyticsClient for client analysis, and  PlatformLSF LicenseScheduler to manage the software license on the internet. CAD and CAE software including CATIA, UG, NASTRAN, and FLUENT.
        At date, AVICII is basically a test environment. With the increase of applications, user requirement, software licenses and thus the demand of computing resources, the CNIC AVIC II node will appropriately update the hardware device.
