• description: Digital Forestry Application Grid (DFG) is financed by the application grid research item in the high performance computer and core software field of the National Hi-Tech Research and Development Program of China (863 Program). DFG supports forest resources information management and forestry eco-construction projects, which are the most important information infrastructures in the forestry sector. A characteristic of DFG is in the specialization of grid resource management, business logic development and running engine of grid application. Using the above technology, researchers can construct multi-level systems for forestry subjects application system with different aims.
• functionalities: DFG integrates the data resources of forest and forestry eco-construction projects at four levels (i.e. state, province, city and county). The data resources are of different types, such as remote sensing images, vector data, thematic attribute data, etc.
  Thematic grid services, such as data resources service, spatial information analysis service, online statistic computing service, are developed independently, which allows the sharing and usage of forestry information resources to a deep extent. Researchers build the forest resource monitoring system for green projects analysis and management systems at both the state and the province level, thus building up important management tools for forestry resources information management and forestry eco-construction projects.
  DFG has different application patterns. The first one is to be an independent system for forestry specialized computing environment. The second one is to connect and share the existing forestry information systems and running environments by grid encapsulation of the data, software tools, computers and storage devices distributed in forestry sector by DFG.
