functionalities: NGG consists of several layers of components, including basic services, service flow constructor, tasks, service flow engine and portal.
1) The basic services provide core functions such as data access services, data transfer services, data aggregation services and computing services for geological applications.
2) The service flow constructor is used for building up tasks using basic services according to the service flow language specification of NGG.
3) A task composed of basic services corresponds to a geological application.
4) The service flow engine performs parsing, validating, and execution of services defined in a task.
5) The portal provides the interface to the end users.
The project has developed geological software for national geological applications. A prototype geological survey grid system, providing data and application software sharing, was implemented, including the following functionalities:
- Data sharing service: browsing and querying data with MAPGIS, grid technologies and database technologies.
-
Ground water resources assessment service: providing information about ground water resources assessment and the application software sharing.
-
Ground water level forecast service: forecasting future ground water level in specific areas with dynamically observed data.
- Retrieval and synthesis of mine-shaping information services in grid environment with methods of evidence weight.
- Sharing of software for solid mineral resources conventional assessment computations.
- middleware requirements:
Supported by CNGrid middleware GOS developed by a joint team led by the Institute of Computing Technology, CAS, NGG team has established the architecture of NGG to meet the requirements in geological survey applications. Further information on the NGG architecture is available at: http://www.euchinagrid.org/deliverable/D4.3.html
- resources requirements:
As regional centers for data-sharing, the regional geological survey centers have all deployed ORACLE databases and GIS software. The provincial geological surveys are responsible for collecting original data, providing original data service, deploying SQL Sever databases and GIS software, and establishing professional research centers with high performance computing support.
The geological software exploits a MAPGIS environment.
